Student Athlete Realistic Expectations for College

Updated: Jan 5

Talking recently with a parent about the success of high school athletes in their quest to become college athletes. Here’s what I said:

1. Don’t be afraid to get the information about whether you are being recruited or not-it’s going to come sometime! And take the hint if no one gets back to you!

2. Be realistic about your talent and academics and make the best choice for success for your individual student athlete.

3. Teach your student to drive the process and keep the conversation positive accentuating what athletics has taught the student and how to live those core values-hard work, dependability, team work, dealing with adversity, winning with grace and losing with class to name a few! Let’s use sports as a teaching tool!
